01 · Puliangudi

A lemon town in Tamil Nadu.

A dentist's kid who sketched everything. My dad backed every risk I took.

02 · Lovedale

60 in the band. 8,000 watching.

Boarding school from class 5. In 2017 I led our brass band past President Pranab Mukherjee. Three mace flips, caught, then the salute.

03 · Kurukshetra

Design school, and curiosity about everything else.

In class 11 I sold 240 bottles of a farmer's hibiscus squash. At NID, my digital detox app won Gold and Silver at the International Design Awards.

04 · Chennai

Leggo: four metro stations, 100K+ rides.

We owned an electric fleet and paid 75 drivers a monthly salary instead of a commission.

05 · The burn

₹6L a month. Five months of runway.

The advice was to pitch investors and expand. We spent eight hours a day at the stations instead. Breakeven in three months.

06 · The fall

Leggo closed. We lost ₹51L.

₹26L of it was my dad's. A psychologist told me not to let it turn into fear.

07 · Zero

Start again, from zero.

An EV fleet that paid its drivers a salary.

Chennai's metro lost riders in the last two kilometres: a ₹100 auto to reach a ₹30 train. We owned electric autos at four stations, paid drivers a salary instead of a commission, and charged one flat fare. After 100K+ rides, Chennai Metro Rail asked us to expand to every station.

At NID a senior told me their agency billed a client far more than the designers who did the work were paid. Everyone wanted a job there. I wanted to know how it made money. So I started a brand design studio with zero capital, and sold the work, led the design and ran the team.

The SOCIAL detox app, IDA Gold and Silver winner 2022

SOCIAL is a phone app I designed at NID to help people use their phones less: daily limits, detox challenges and a community. It won Gold (interface design) and Silver (mobile and web app design) at the International Design Awards 2022 in Los Angeles.
